Work handling components for flexible manufacturing systems
Machine Building Systems is introducing an array of new components from Item for creating workstations, conveyors and other equipment for use in flexible manufacturing systems as might be the case, for example, in factories where Lean Manufacturing principles are employed.
One of the main components in the new range is the Castor Rail 8 40x40 into which can be installed various types of castor inserts, castor ball inserts, brush inserts or slide strip inserts. These assemblies can then be used for the gentle, low-friction transfer of workpieces, pallets or tote boxes between workstations within a flexible production cell, either hand-fed or by gravity. If required, ESD-safe components are available for handling sensitive electronic components and assemblies.
Further accessories include end caps for the aluminium profile extrusions, as well as brackets and side guides for conveyors, and end brackets for mounting shock-absorbing buffers. Note also that castors are available in a choice of colours so that operatives can see at a glance when stock levels are falling - which is useful when kanban systems are in operation. In places where free movement is not required, simple stainless steel brake strips can be applied to groups of three castors.
Other new Item components for workstations and similar environments include shelf profiles and shelf support sets.
