SEW Eurodrive is launching an optional Premium Protection Package covering its range of geared motors. The package includes high-performance components that the company says "Will help make a significant contribution to the reliability of any plant by creating more durable and robust products". An additional 12 months warranty (on top of the normal 2-year period) also comes with the package.

Fast and secure remote maintenance for machines

KEB Automation has introduced COMBIVIS CONNECT, a hardware and software solution that it says provides users with a fast, secure remote access maintenance platform for industrial machines and automation systems. The concept of remote maintenance offers many advantages and opportunities, including not having to expose employees and customers to unnecessary risks - which is a particular challenge in the current global coronavirus pandemic. Remote maintenance can also remove the need to travel to machines or plant equipment, therefore saving time and travel costs, and technical experts can provide support more quickly. Remote maintenance systems make it easier to access devices from a different location: for example during commissioning, maintenance work, troubleshooting and machine status analysis. The prerequisite for this is a two-way secure Internet connection.

By designing and delivering a custom 19" rack case in only 4 weeks, Southampton-based Verotec helped 7th Sense to launch its new "˜Juggler' hardware-based modular pixel processing system in February 2019. The unveiling took place at the Integrated Systems Europe Show, where it won The Best of ISE 2019 Award.

New mobile app from SKF simplifies bearing mounting

SKF has developed a new mobile app that it says "Simplifies the task of mounting and replacing bearings". The SKF Bearing Assist app, developed together with customers, provides detailed mounting instructions for a comprehensive range of SKF bearings. The app has been configured for use by engineering and maintenance teams and is designed to minimise the problems of incorrect mounting, thus helping to reduce installation time and cost. It also assists in extending the operating life of bearings.

www.machinebuilding.net has been sold to new owners. Previously owned by Damte Ltd, the flagship site is now in the ownership of The Engineering Network Ltd. MachineBuilding.net was launched by respected engineer and journalist Jonathan Severn and his business partner Geoff Lock in 2006. Since then the platform has established itself as the preferred source of information for thousands of machine builders across the UK and further afield. Its associated monthly newsletter, dispatched to more than 4,000 opted-in machine builders, has become an essential marketing tool for many industry leaders.

New igus video reveals key to low-cost automation

The new modular Apiro motion system from igus can assist design engineers in developing low-cost automation systems. It consists of three lubrication-free worm gears to provide standard, inverted and linear movements, and these can be connected either in series or parallel and configured to perform in applications ranging from straightforward linear motion to more complex robotic tasks.

The survey says - well done UK manufacturing

According to a recent survey of 2000 adults undertaken by Populus for Cadence Innovation Marketing, 74 per cent of the UK public believes that the manufacturing sector stepped up to meet the challenge of supporting the UK as coronavirus took a grip on the nation in March 2020. The same number of respondents also believed that a strategic long-term plan for helping UK manufacturing to be more productive and competitive will help insulate us from future pandemics - and go some way towards protecting UK GDP.

Aerospace drive solutions video

maxon has just released a new video highlighting the company's capabilities in the aerospace sector. Hosted by maxon's Andrew Gibson, it provides an insight into the drive systems the business provides for passenger aircraft, helicopters, spacecraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. For example, using its own in-house laboratories, maxon tests its drives for resistance to a variety of elements including vibration, shock, cold, heat and vacuum.
