ABB opens new Ability Collaborative Operations Centre

ABB is expanding its global network of Collaborative Operations Centres to broaden its digital reach and expand its portfolio of digital services. The new centre is located at ABB's German headquarters in Mannheim and went into operation in April 2018.

IO-Link Wireless specification completed

IO-Link is the first technology for communicating with sensors and actuators below the fieldbus level to be adopted as an international standard (IEC 61131-9). This technology has now been expanded to include wireless communication.

Seminar: Application of EN standards to machinery guarding

The PPMA is promoting its seminar Machinery Guarding: the application of EN standards, the next of which takes place on 7 June 2018 at the Marriott Hotel, Northampton. The seminar is aimed at companies designing, manufacturing, purchasing and using machinery and production systems, as well as anything else within the scope of the Machinery Directive that requires guarding or that is a guard requiring CE marking as a 'safety component'. In particular, the machinery guarding seminar covers these topics:

Brüel & Kjær Sound & Vibration and HBM to merge

Spectris plc ("˜Spectris') is announcing that Brüel & Kjær Sound & Vibration ("˜BKSV') and HBM will be merging their activities from 1 January 2019. Both BKSV and HBM are operating companies within the Test and Measurement segment of Spectris. The new company will be named HBK (Hottinger, Brüel & Kjær).

3D camera system from IDS wins VSD Award

For the fourth time, the American trade magazine Vision Systems Design has presented the Innovators Award to products in the field of image processing. The Ensenso X series from IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH has been awarded "Gold" in the "3D cameras" category and is thus considered one of the most innovative products in image processing. Criteria such as originality, innovation and use of a novel technology as well as the benefits for designers, system integrators and users and the effects on productivity are evaluated.

The 18th Edition of BS7671 Electrical Wring Regulations has been revised to take into account changes in technology over the last 10 year of its predecessor, the 17th edition. The IET have provided a link which summarises these changes.
