Renishaw apprentices inspire a new generation of engineers

Fifty-five apprentices from Renishaw volunteered at MACH 2018 to support the Education and Development Zone. The initiative, run by the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA), involved tours, talks and demonstrations at the show to encourage students aged eleven to 19 to study science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects at a higher level.

See real-time edge-AI machine control at the PPMA show

On stand B32 at this year's PPMA show, Omron will showcase a new product that adds artificial intelligence (AI) functionality to packaging and processing machinery for real-time control that provides an instant reduction in waste and machine downtime. The AI controller is based on a machine learning engine (MLE), which is incorporated into Omron's Sysmac control platform (on both PLC and IPC) and monitors multiple signals simultaneously to detect potential anomalies (faults) and determine the appropriate response. The whole calculation can be accomplished in under a single machine cycle, minimising any disruption to the operation of the line.

Amelia Godwin is new Group Quotations Manager at AWS Electronics

AWS Electronics Group has appointed Amelia Godwin as its new Group Quotations Manager. Based in the UK and Slovakia, AWS offers electronics manufacturing capabilities in rapid prototyping, PCBAs, cable manufacture and unit assembly, alongside a dedicated maintenance and repair service. Amelia assumes responsibility of the full quotations process for the Group, co-ordinating customer requirements and liaising with suppliers for best strategic pricing.
