Compact escalator drives offer easy interchangeability

Renold Gears is launching a new range of compact escalator drives with three footprint options to provide easy interchangeability with those of other manufacturers. The case design ensures ease of installation for both the replacement of existing drives or in new applications without the need for re-engineering or redesign. The new escalator drives have a compact design available as motor ready or fitted with a vertical motor, brake and flywheel package for in-truss installation.

Improved cage and insulation prolong bearing life

Schaeffler has developed two new products for cylindrical rolling bearings that offer distinct advantages for the rail sector. The new MPAX brass cage for cylindrical rolling bearings is a robust, rib-guided, single-piece solid brass cage, which is very resistant to vibration and shock loads. The MPAX cage has a higher load carrying capacity for radial centrifugal forces (higher radial rigidity) than its predecessors and is also suitable for very high speed applications. In terms of the rail sector, cylindrical rolling bearings with MPAX cages are particularly well suited to final drive gearboxes. Over time, Schaeffler expects the MPAX brass cage to gradually replace the previous cage types.

New PXIe USB 2.0 hub module simplifies test systems

Pickering Interfaces is adding a PXIe version of its USB 2.0 Hub module which offers the same capabilities as its popular PXI USB 2.0 Hub (model 40-738). This USB 2.0 Hub (model 42-738) is a single-slot 3U PXIe module that combines an 8-port USB 2.0 hub and USB data/power switching to provide a controlled connection between the backplane and USB products. Each port can connect and disconnect power and data paths separately, simulating various connection faults.

New sliding slam latches are virtually silent in use

The new DIRAK sliding slam latch from FDB Panel Fittings provides a low-noise secure door-closure mechanism for internal doors, cupboards, etc. It is expected to be of value in specialist vehicles such as caravans, commercial vehicles, railway rolling stock and similar. Gary Miles, MD at FDB Panel Fittings explains: "In the event of the transportation of containers, for example for small animals or similar, in addition to vibration resistance and secure locking of doors and hatches, a stable closure is essential. For this reason DIRAK have developed their new sliding slam latch, which due to its sliding release prevents unintentional opening from the inside and furthermore is virtually noiseless during use."

Tin-free silicone avoids conflicting chemistries

Wacker Elastosil N9111 from Intertronics is a tin-free single-part RTV silicone adhesive sealant, with a neutral cure chemistry, producing a non-corrosive seal that does not inhibit other materials such as platinum cure silicones. This, along with its UL94 V-0 rating, makes it a strong candidate for electronics manufacturing, especially for gap filling, component ruggedisation, and form-in-place gasketing.
