Collaborative robot welding systems come of age

Sure, cobots are lightweight: the largest UR10 robot is under 29 kg (64 lb), so they are easy to pick up and move from one process to another. But they are no lightweights when it comes to heavy-duty processes like welding. In fact there is already a range of cobot welding systems to choose from. This may sound surprising but it is just one more smart application for these flexible, cost-effective and easy-to-program automation tools.

Compact encoder offers high speed motion PLC synchronisation

As a recent addition to its PROFINET IRT protocol variants, Wachendorff 's WDGA 58F absolute magnetic encoder features a minimum bus cycle time of 125us which is eminently suited to tightly synchronised multi-axis motion control on the fastest PLCs. Available in the UK from Variohm EuroSensor, the 58mm diameter encoder is also reckoned to be the world 's smallest PROFINET encoder with a nominal length of only 46.5mm.

Cutmaster 60i plasma cutter offers high power-to-weight ratio

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products is announcing the availability of its new Cutmaster 60i handheld air plasma cutting system. Cutmaster 60i is a 3-phase, 400V unit that weighs 16.8kg and provides a rated output of 7.6kW at 50 per cent duty cycle at 60A. It produces a recommended cut of 16mm, has a maximum sever thickness of 38mm, and provides the fastest cut speed at any thickness material for its class.
