The Pilz PAScal Safety Calculator v1.6.0 is available now as a free download! This helps engineers who are working to either EN ISO 13849-1 or EN 62061 (IEC 62061).

Not everyone is a mathematical genius, which is why Pilz developed the PAScal Safety Calculator. The software calculates and verifies the key safety parameters such as Performance Level (PL) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) for plant and machinery safety functions. With its systematic procedure, the PAScal Safety Calculator is said to make it easier for users to perform the safety assessment in compliance with current functional safety standards. Unlike other tools available, PAScal is based on both safety standards EN ISO 13849-1 and EN 62061. The calculated result is compared with the safety parameters required for the safety functions and is displayed in graphical form. Users can easily see how individual components influence the respective safety functions.

The practical nature of the tool is impressive thanks to improved libraries, which store the safety-related characteristic data for all Pilz products and for other manufacturers that have created libraries for use on Sistema (the Software Assistant produced by IFA). It is simple to import components from manufacturer's libraries in either Sistema or Excel format.

New macros

New macro functionality has been built in to PAScal v1.6.0 to enable rapid, repeated use of parts of safety-related control functions.

PAScal can be freely downloaded by registered users of the Pilz website (registration simply requires you to provide an email address for a user name, and a password). After registering, PAScal can be downloaded by visiting www.pilz.co.uk and using webcode 6494. It is then installed and run locally, providing very useful functionality in its free 'demo mode'. Purchasing a licence unlocks even greater functionality.
