PNOZmulti Configurator v9.3.0 links PNOZmulti to PSS 4000 PLC

Pilz is releasing the PNOZmulti Configurator v9.3.0, this being the latest version of the software for configuring and monitoring the Pilz PNOZmulti configurable safety controllers (PNOZmulti, PNOZmulti 2 and PNOZmulti Mini). This version of the Configurator handles the recent PNOZmulti 2 hardware enhancements such as more input/output expanders and communications modules. Moreover, it benefits from a very important development that enables a PNOZmulti to be linked safely to a PSS 4000 programmable safety and automation system (safety PLC) over an Ethernet connection using a new Safe Ethernet Connection (SEC) function block. This means that, for example, a plant-wide PSS 4000 system can share safety-critical signals with machines that have PNOZmulti configurable controllers, with no need for additional interface hardware.

The safe Ethernet connection enables a point-to-point connection to be made for up to 48 virtual inputs and 48 virtual outputs between a PNOZmulti base unit and a PSS 4000 control system, with all inputs and outputs being safety-related. The virtual inputs/outputs and connection settings are configured using the PNOZmulti Configurator. No additional safe Ethernet network components are required, as the communication takes place over standard Modbus TCP. All PNOZ mXp ETH PNOZmulti base units with firmware version 6.7 or above can be used, and a connection can also be made with the previous-generation PSS 3000 safety PLC for which there is an extensive installed base, particularly in the automotive sector.

As with other actions within the Configurator, the Safe Ethernet Connection status element is dragged and dropped into the logic section of the PNOZmulti Configurator workspace. It is fully configurable in terms of: local address of the PNOZmulti, remote address for the PSS 4000 controller, timeout value, and user text and location description. In addition, diagnostics are provided via the integrated PVIS (Pilz visualisation is built into the PNOZmulti Configurator software so that no extra software is required to set up Pilz HMIs).
